Reading adventure
Pretty Little Mistakes: A Do-Over Novel by Heather McElhatton
I really loved this book. You make your own chooses and every time you do, it changes the end. Heather McElhatton did a great job. It is one of the best books to read at your spare time to relax your mind and have fun.

For motivation
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba
Wow. If you want to get motivated, you should read this book. It amazes you. It shows you how you can make your dream real from nothing. Having dream to build a windmill and do it from almost nothing while everybody else laughing at you like you are a crazy. Best part is that it is a true story!

Thriller
Shut Your Eyes Tight or Think of a Number by John Verdon
These both books are great. You can choose of them or you can read both. You won’t regret. These are kind of long books but once you start to read them, you just force yourself to finish them right away because you can’t stop yourself wondering what going to happen next. So make sure you have a lot of time to start to read these books. Otherwise you may see sunrise when you are done reading.

For Fun
School of Fear by Gitty Daneshvari
If you like funny books, this is the best. It makes you laugh so much. One of the funniest books I’ve ever read. Face your fears and then just laugh.

Hugo

hugo

I really don’t know how to write a review about a movie like Hugo with 11 Oscar nomination and 5 Oscars. I don’t know if there are enough words to tell all about it and maybe easier way is to watch it yourself and see with your own eyes.

Watching a pro like Ben Kingsley, young star like Asa Butterfield and great actor like Sacha Baron Cohen in same movie is really amazing. I should thank Martin Scorsese for directing such a fantastic movie too.

A Young kid and his father try to fix a broken automaton. Life is not fair and one day he loses his father and starts to live with his drank uncle who leaves him later. He starts to live in a train station fixing clocks and stealing parts to be able to fix automaton. Someday toy store owner catches him and takes his notebook which left from his father. He does everything to get his notebook back but this effort takes him into amazing adventure.

When you read story like above you think it is all about a kid but it is wrong. It is more than that. Movie is about one of the greatest movie director and producer Georges Melies. In the earliest days of cinema, he sells everything he has to make movies.

Hugo gives you more than a movie. It gives you art of motion pictures and history of cinematography. Watching first movie, first special effects, and first hand-painted colored movie takes you to fantastic journey.

That’s why you need to see Hugo instead of just reading about it.

Ride a Bike to Make a Donation

Ride a Bike to Make a DonationSummer is coming and it is time to ride a bike to work instead of driving. But this time I got an idea. My wife is diabetic and it is really hard to live with such disease. So I decided to donate my gas saving with riding bike to American Diabetes Association.

Well, it is not much but better than nothing. I live about 2.5 miles away from my office.

If you live close to your work, please try to ride a bike to work and save a little money. Then donate that money to any charity, doesn’t matter if it is American Diabetes Association , Make-A-Wish Foundation or any other foundation. Probably you’ll feel great.

Don’t Make Me Think

If you want to have a website or if you are just starting your online business, this is the first book you should read. Don’t Make me Think by Steve Krung is a classic and it’s been years old and still selling.

As you can understand from its name, it shows you the way to build a website. Main point is not to make your visitors think for what do to on your website, just guide them the way you want. They shouldn’t ask themselves questions like “how can I do this?”, “where do I find this” etc.

It shows you how visitors think, common design tips and what makes visitors more comfortable on your website. Great design ideas, best usability tips and more. You find everything you want to know about how a website should be.

Believe me you won’t regret reading this book and it is worth every penny for it. I read it first when I was at university and I read it again once I saw its 2nd edition online.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

dont-be-afraid-of-the-darkI am a big fan of Guillermo del Toro. He is a great movie director and writer. I love his Hellboy series and when I heard that he is the writer of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, I watched and to be honest, I was totally disappointment.

Well, first of all, I was expecting more creative creatures. Those creatures look like small tiny monkeys and they are not scary. You keep waiting something to scare you or just surprise you but it just happens at the end of the movie but I mean the end of the end of movie. You just ask yourself “what the…” and that’s it.

I love horror movies and I try to watch them all but I can’t say this is a horror movie.  It is kind of soft thriller. He tried to make tooth fairy(s) a little scary and that’s it.

Apollo 18

apollo 18 movie

Apollo 18 is the worst movie I’ve seen lately. The story is based on a conspiracy theory and footage that NASA sent Apollo 18 to Moon secretly and let astronauts diet during this mission because of Extra-Terrestrial life form living on moon. I don’t like this kind of movies that uses such things to attract people and make more easy money instead of putting a great job out there.

Let’s forget about this marketing scam and look at the movie itself. You hardly see what happens in movie. You keep waiting some kind of alien to kill everybody but you don’t. There are just talking and rocks. Finally you see what extra-terrestrial life form is. Rocks…

Most ridiculous part of movie is the end. Rocks attack to astronauts but you see only blur screen and screaming. You know what is happening but you don’t see anything.

I don’t recommend this movie and it is just waste of time watching it.

I only agree with it’s tagline “There’s a reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.”. I really wonder why we never go back to Moon again. It’s been almost 40 years. That’s weird!

SEO Made Simple

I found this book at Barnes & Noble by chance and decided to read it. If you are at beginner level of SEO or have no idea about SEO, it is a great book but if you are familiar with SEO, it doesn’t give you much.

I liked the way it explains everything step by step and it is really easy to understand. If you have website and want to learn about SEO a little bit, you should read this book.

It is great for beginning. It shows you on-page optimization and off-page optimization. Also it provides some good resources and tools you can use.

I don’t agree with some stuff especially about article spinning but Michael H. Fleischner is the one who is Pro of SEO, not me but it is worth to read it.

It is great to be an husband!

Over here, I want to tell everybody that how much I love my wife. Here is my little darling (:

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

Steve Jobs by Walter IsaacsonWhen you know the end, it is not easily read such journey, especially if it has such end. From beginning to end, I think Walter Isaacson did a great job.

At the beginning, like everybody else, you think Steve Jobs is a real j.rk. Stealing money from his friends, insulting them, not taking responsibility of his child(even trying to accuse her girlfriend as a whore not to accept his child), cutting of friends stock options, not giving credits where due, stealing ideas( even he says “Good artists copy, great artists steal – we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas.”) and so on but it is amazing how it starts everything from a garage, creating first computer, how he put together all right things, amazing communication/marketing skills.

You start to love Steve Jobs once he leaves Apple and get married. He doesn’t give up and create NeXT.  Then he create best animation company in the world named Pixar. Then he returns to Apple to save it for nothing. After that everybody knows what happens. iPod, iTunes, iPhone & iPad.

There are 2 parts I liked most about this book.

First one is his argument with Bill Gates. When he accuses Bill Gates to steal user interface of Mac computer, Bill Gates tell him “Well, Steve, I think there is more than one way of looking at it. I think it is more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xenox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it.” what a great answer (:

Second part is his philosophy about simplicity (“Bringing great design and simple capability to something that doesn’t cost much. It is original vision for Apple”, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”) and what customer wants (“Customers don’t know what they want until we’ve shown them”)

But suddenly everything turns into sad story. Fighting with cancer and reading how he is dying slowly every day is really sad.

What is amazing is, when he created first computer, he had a dream that one day, computers would be size of a book and his final invitation is iPad which makes computer in a size of a book.

Sometimes I just want scientists to find a way for immortality and use it for some people. One of them is definitely Steve Jobs.
